Tonight’s Masterchef Mystery Box challenge is at Swan Hill in Victoria. It is the start of Heston’s road trip week and the contestants will visit a different part of the country each day.
Tonight’s mystery box ingredients are:
- Murray Cod
The first dish the judges want to taste is Diana’s Steamed Cod with Smoked Corn Puree and Sautéed Snails. The dish looks nice. Heston says he enjoyed the dish, it was delicious and exciting. Matt says the cod is perfectly cooked. George congratulates her on cooking snails for the first time.
The next dish to be tasted is Sarah’s. She has cooked Butter Poached Cod with Charred Corn and Orange and Saltbush Vinaigrette. George says he loves the caramelised corn. Matt loved the saltbush but says the fish is a bit undercooked.
The judges call Karlie next. What did she cook with the Mystery Box ingredients? Pan Fried Cod with Saltbush Cakes. George says he loves it to bits. George says she has nailed the flavour. Matt says she couldn’t have cooked the fish better.
The judges choose Diana’s dish. Diana has won an extra 30 minutes cooking time and time to discuss her dish with Heston. Diana is inspired by a pina colada and mojito. She is making a semifreddo. Her extra time is up and the other contestants begin cooking. Diana isn’t pleased with how her dish is working out, the judges aren’t thrilled either. Time is almost up and the contestants are trying to be extra creative as Heston is around. Time is up.
Here are some of the dishes the judges tasted.
The judges taste Sam’s dish, Ocean with Blueberries and Whit Chocolate Sand. George says it is complex, interesting and delicious. Heston also loves the dish.
Diana’s dish is Pina Colada and Mojito. She had the extra 30 minutes, the judges advised her against it but she continued. George says its not hitting the mark at all. Gary says none of the elements work. Heston says there is neither Pina Colada or Mojito in the dish.
Tamara’s dish is Ocean Spray. It looks terrible. George says there could have been more care. Gary says she is in a bit of trouble. George and Heston comment that it is very sweet.
Eloise’s Tomatoes and Basil is good. Bright, fresh and delicious, the tomato is intense and delicious. Sarah’s dish, Pan Fried Yabbie Tails with Chive Oil, the yabbies are raw. Next is Callan’s turn. He has been waiting to be tasted by Heston. His dish, Lettuce Water with White Chocolate Rocks and Pineapple Foam is bold and brave. Heston says it is a really great dish.
The reward for the best dishes are to continue cooking with Heston, the worst cooks don’t get to cook with Heston and will be in the elimination at the end of the week. The contestants in the elimination are Sarah and Diana.
